Vocal Improvisation opportunities in Edmonton
We are so fortunate to have several opportunities to participate in vocal improvisation in Edmonton. The following is hopefully just the beginning of what is to come.
Circlesong (Centre for Spiritual Living)
Will meet the 3rd saturday of each month (except for October we will meet october 22) - 12:30 - 2pm at the
Centre for Spiritual Living 7621 101 Ave. Cost is a sliding scale of $5 - 15 dollars. Facilitated by Karen Porkka
Circlesong (Garneau)
Circlesong meets most thursday evenings 7:00-9pm at Garneau Chapel 11148 84 Ave. It is facilitated by Sonja Myllymaki and others. Join the facebook group Edmonton Circle Song or send me an email and I will add you to our email list. It is drop in and cost is by donation.
V.I.N.E. Choir
Vocal Improvisation Network of Edmonton wishes to gather singers and create spontaneous music works that will make your soul sing. Based on Circlesong singing developed by Bobby McFerrin, we will work with structures and musical concepts (rhythm, melody, harmony, etc.) to develop skills needed to circlesing.
There will be 2 sessions of 4 week classes on
Monday evenings 7:30-9:30pm
starting October 3, 2011. (no classes Oct. 10 or 31).
You can register for one or for both.
Cost for each session is $100+gst.

Rise & V.I.N.E.
Brett Miles' RISE and Karen Porkka's V.I.N.E. join improvisational forces for afternoons of spontaneous creation of music from 2:30 to 5:00pm the 3rd saturday of each month at the Carrot Community Arts Coffee House 9351 118 Ave. Cost is by donation.

Circle Song Facilitation

Circle Songs are a
"A Spontaneous Creation of Sound and Song" (in the tradition of Bobby McFerrin and those who came before and after him). They are sound improvisations using voice and body building simple to elaborate harmonies and grooves.
Circle Songs are an exploratory process that
- fosters expression
- bolsters confidence
- breaks down barriers
- strengthens connection to self
- reinforces a sense of community
- supports and exemplifies compassionate thought and being
- invigorates spirit and soul
No musical skill or talent required!
Workshops can be tailored to most group sizes and experience.
Circle Song is an experience like no other and can easily be incorporated into any class, gathering or event.
